Plenum: A Sustainable Medical Tourism Solution January 26, 2025 | 3 min Read | Leadership The BSI Smart Sustainability Charrette was a whirlwind. Imagine a room buzzing with architects, designers, business strategists – all thrown together for a five-day design sprint. I was facilitating Team 6, a diverse group including talent from architecture, UX design, business strategy, and digital experience, collaborating with students from KEA (Denmark) and Politecnico di Milano, alongside my own institution, George Brown College. We were tasked with creating a sustainable medical tourism model for Barbados, specifically focusing on reproductive healthcare. Talk about pressure!

Behind the Scenes: Crafting a Vogue-Worthy Campaign for Kids Runway
The moment I saw the Kids Runway ad in Vogue Canada’s March issue, my heart skipped a beat. It wasn’t just about the glossy pages or the prestigious platform—it was about a vision brought to life. I remembered the first brainstorming session, scribbling ideas on a whiteboard, trying to capture the essence of global fashion through a child’s eyes. We knew we wanted something bold yet elegant, something that spoke to the diversity and creativity of our designers.

A Vision Takes Shape
We decided on a two-page spread. The left side would be a minimalist editorial shoot featuring 2-3 standout pieces from each of our global designers. The challenge was balancing individuality with a cohesive narrative. From Bulgaria’s regal charm to Canada’s contemporary elegance, each piece had to shine on its own while contributing to the bigger story. After countless video calls, mood boards, and sample shipments, we finally had the perfect selection.
On the right, we envisioned a powerful group shot of our Kids Runway ambassadors. These young trailblazers weren’t just models—they were the embodiment of our brand’s spirit: vibrant, confident, and unapologetically themselves. Coordinating this shoot was no small feat. Imagine managing the excitement of a dozen kids while ensuring every hem and hairstyle was camera-ready. But the energy on set was electric, and that joy translated beautifully on the page.
The Moment It All Came Together
There were moments of doubt. Would the editorial minimalism feel too stark? Would the group shot capture the playful yet poised energy we aimed for? But when I first saw the ad in print, all the late nights and logistical hurdles faded away. It was perfect. The left spread was sophisticated and timeless, while the right was dynamic and full of life. It wasn’t just an ad—it was a story, a celebration of cultural diversity and youthful exuberance.
A Milestone and a New Beginning
As I flipped through Vogue, seeing our vision brought to life, one thought resonated: this is just the beginning. Kids Runway isn’t merely about fashion; it’s about setting a stage for the next generation, giving young voices a platform in the global style conversation.
That March issue wasn’t just a milestone. It was a promise—a glimpse of what’s yet to come.
